Tariffs still weigh on the Markets

Trade war and tariffs continue to cause uncertainty

While the United States and China agreed to a 90-day negotiation period which has put a halt on any increased tariff activity, the uncertainty surrounding this ongoing trade war continues to weigh on the world markets. With the holidays in front of us and no real trade movements expected, the end of 2018 appears to be a dud. The United States is not the only one feeling the heat of the tariffs. While the US, Mexico and Canada have come to terms on the new U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, or USMCA, it was reported this week that Canada Steel and Aluminum tariffs have had a negative impact on 1/3 of Canadian exporters. While we all apparently limp into 2019 with caution, hopes of a strong beginning to 2019 are still there but slowly fading.
